In America, today marks the first day of Spring, however, Greeks celebrate the beginning of Spring on March 1st. This Greek custom called “Marti” marks the beginning of the month and it is tradition for children to wear a bracelet of white and red thread for the entire month.

A traditional greeting you will often hear on March 1st is “Kalo Mina” which means ‘Enjoy the month ahead’.
